आखिर कौन है सैंटा क्लाज?-
सांता क्लॉज़ को सेंट निकोलस, फादर क्रिसमस (क्रिसमस के जनक), क्रिस क्रिंगल, या सिर्फ "सांता " के नाम से जाना जाता है। पौराणिक और ऐतिहासिक दृष्टि से वे लोक कथाओं में प्रचलित एक व्यक्ति हैं। कई पश्चिमी संस्कृतियों में ऐसा माना जाता है कि सांता क्रिसमस की पूर्व संध्या, यानि 24 दिसम्बर की शाम या देर रात के समय के दौरान अच्छे बच्चों के घरों में आकर उन्हें उपहार है। सांता की आधुनिक आकृति की व्युत्पत्ति सिंटरक्लास की डच आकृति से हुई, जिसे संभवतया उपहार देने वाले सेंट निकोलस से सम्बंधित माना जाता है। सेंट निकोलस एक ऐसी ऐतिहासिक आकृति हैं, जो हेगिओग्राफिकल कहानियों में मिलती है। इसी से लगभग मिलती जुलती एक कहानी बीजान्टिन और यूनानी लोककथाओं में प्रचलित है, बेसिल ऑफ़ केसारिया. 1 जनवरी को ग्रीस में बेसिल का फीस्ट दिवस मनाया जाता है, इस दिन तोहफों का आदान प्रदान किया जाता है।
आखिर सैंटा क्लाज को किसने चित्रित किया ?
सांता क्लॉज़ को आम तौर पर एक मोटे, हंसमुख सफ़ेद दाढ़ी वाले आदमी के रूप में चित्रित किया जाता है, जो सफ़ेद कॉलर और कफ़ वाला लाल कोट पहनता है, इसके साथ वह चमड़े की काली बेल्ट और बूट पहनता है (उनकी कुछ छवियों में दाढ़ी होती है लेकिन मूंछ नहीं). यह छवि संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका और कनाडा में 19 वीं सदी में लोकप्रिय हो गयी। इस छवि को लोकप्रिय बनाने में तत्कालीन राजनीतिक कार्टूनिस्ट थॉमस नास्ट ने महत्वपूर्ण योगदान दिया. गानों, रेडियो, टेलिविज़न, बच्चों की किताबों और फिल्मों के माध्यम से इस छवि को बनाये रखा गया है। संयुक्त राष्ट्र और यूरोप में, उन्हें अक्सर अमेरिकी सांता क्लॉज़ के रूप में चित्रित किया जाता है, परन्तु उन्हें अक्सर फादर क्रिसमस कहा जाता है।
माना जाता है कि सांता का घर उत्तरी ध्रुव में है और वे उड़ने वाले रेनडियर्स की गाड़ी पर चलते हैं। सांता का यह आधुनिक रूप 19वीं सदी से अस्तित्व में आया उसके पहले ये ऐसे नहीं थे। आज से डेढ़ हजार साल पहले जन्मे संत निकोलस को असली सांता और सांता का जनक माना जाता है। हालांकि संत निकोलस और जीसस के जन्म का सीधा संबंध नहीं रहा है फिर भी आज के समय में सांता क्लॉज क्रिसमस का अहम हिस्सा हैं। उनके बिना क्रिसमस अधूरा सा लगता है।
सैंटा बाबा का जन्म कब हुआ ? -
संत निकोलस का जन्म तीसरी सदी में जीसस की मौत के 280 साल बाद मायरा में हुआ। वे एक रईस परिवार से थे। उन्होंने बचपन में ही अपने माता-पिता को खो दिया। बचपन से ही उनकी प्रभु यीशु में बहुत आस्था थी। वे बड़े होकर ईसाई धर्म के पादरी (पुजारी) और बाद में बिशप बने। उन्हें जरूरतमंदों और बच्चों को गिफ्ट्स देना बहुत अच्छा लगता था। वे अक्सर जरूरतमंदों और बच्चों को गिफ्ट्स देते थे।
संत निकोलस अपने उपहार आधी रात को ही देते थे क्योंकि उन्हें उपहार देते हुए नजर आना पसंद नहीं था। वे अपनी पहचान लोगों के सामने नहीं लाना चाहते थे। इसी कारण बच्चों को जल्दी सुला दिया जाता। आज भी कई जगह ऐसा ही होता है अगर बच्चे जल्दी नहीं सोते तो उनके सांता अंकल उन्हें उपहार देने नहीं आते हैं।

इसी प्रकार फ्रांस में चिमनी पर जूते लटकाने की प्रथा है। हॉलैंड में बच्चे सांता के रेंडियरर्स के लिए अपने जूते में गाजर भर कर रखते हैं।

In the United Nations and Europe, he is often depicted as American Santa Claus, but he is often called Father Christmas.
Santa's house is believed to be in the North Pole and they board a flying reindeer's car. This modern form of Santa came into existence from the 19th century, it was not like this before. Saint Nicholas, born one and a half thousand years ago, is considered the real Santa and the father of Santa. Although the birth of Saint Nicholas and Jesus has not been directly related, Santa Claus are an important part of Christmas today. Christmas seems incomplete without them.
When was Santa Baba born? -
Saint Nicholas used to give his gifts at midnight only because he did not like to be seen giving gifts. He did not want to bring his identity to the people. This is why children are put to sleep quickly. The same thing happens in many places even today, if the children do not sleep early, then their Santa Uncle does not come to give them a gift.
Generosity of saint nicholas
A very famous story of Saint Nicholas's generosity is that he helped a poor man.
